"Konfety Karagandy" is a brand name which is well known not only in Kazakhstan but also far beyond the Kazakh boarders.
It's generally accepted that the factory's history commenced in November 1956, however, origins of the famous confectionery factory can be traced back to December 1941 when equipment to produce fruit-drops was sent to Karaganda from Astrakhan.
"Konfety Karagandy" has always been famous for the quality of its confectionery. However, after the collapse of the USSR the economies of the States of the Former Soviet Union were left paralyzed and, like most enterprises, "Konfety Karagandy" suffered the same fate.
In May 1996 UIG Ltd, a British Company, purchased 85% of Konfety Karagandy's share capital from the state of Kazakhstan and took over the management of the factory and a new stage of development was started.
Nowadays "Konfety Karagandy" JSC ranks among the leading food producers in Kazakhstan with production approaching 12000 ton per annum and with a product range approaching 250 items.
New production departments have been constructed since 1996. A New Biscuit Department produces more than 10 types of multi-layered wafers, cakes and chocolate sweets such as "Fox Alice", "Artemon", "Buratino". This Department is also planning to produce chocolate sweets using technology new to us in Kazakhstan. A new Extruder Department produces crisps "Hrust (Crunch)" and a wide range of "airy" biscuits called "Picnic". Now a new equipment line is going to be commissioned to produce cornflakes and assorted Breakfast Cereals. There is also a unique, to Kazakhstan, department producing multi-layered chocolate nougatine and caramel bars such as "Ping-Pong", "Gnome", "Zig Zag", "Champion Yogurt", "Champion Strawberry" and "Flamingo".
The 45th Anniversary of the confectionery factory also coincided with the commissioning of a new equipment line for praline production which enriched our product range not only with new sweets like "Malvina", "Matryoshka", "Winnie the Pooh", "Chunga Changa", but also with more traditional and beloved products such as "Belochka (Squirrel)", "Maska (Mask)", "Karakum", "Krasny Mak (Red Poppy)", "Nu-ka otnimi (Take away)".
In 2003 a new equipment line was started up for production of hollow chocolate shapes. The factory technologists prepared recipes for chocolate sweets such as "Serdechko (Heart)", "Butylochka (Bottle)", "Kurochka Ryaba".
The factory Management has plans to expand both the Marmalade and Biscuit Departments. A new equipment line for production of pomade and chocolate enrobing will be started up, which will double the output of the Marmalade (Pectin Jelly) Department. New equipment lines for the production of marshmallow and chocolate marshmallow will be started up in a the Toffee Department.
"Konfety Karagandy"JSC regularly participates in international exhibitions. In August 2003 the factory participated in the "The Days of Kazakhstan in Russia" exhibition in Moscow. In April 2004 "Konfety Karagandy" JSC was a part of the "Best Companies in Kazakhstan" delegation at the International Fair at the Hannover Messe in Germany. Indeed the high quality of its products and original packaging design are often rewarded with diplomas and medals.
